Bible Stories For Our Little Ones by W.G. van de Hulst
This book
is intended to be a book for mothers. A book to be read in quiet hours, to little ones of
four to seven or eight years old who sit at Mother’s knee. A book to be read slowly, yes,
especially slowly; very clearly with warm, loving reverence and awe which creates in little
children’s heart a pious reverence and a joy filled awe. It desires to be a BIBLE FOR THE
LITTLE ONES, reaching out to all areas of a child’s understanding. A child does not
comprehend everything, yet understands a great deal. This story bible wishes to tell about
the holy things in plain, clear, almost simple language, which still must never profane the
consecrated happenings. It is not meant to be complete. Completeness would hinder children.
This book is not meant to be anything but a modest, reverent endeavour to lead the little
ones into the holy sphere of Godly things. The interest of the little ones will be the test
to see whether this endeavour is accomplished. May God give our little ones His wonderful
blessings in the quiet hours, listening to His voice at Mother’s
knee.— The

The Word of the
King Series A
series of Bible stories by Cor Van Rijswijk.
These hard cover Bible story books are wonderful. Children just learning to read
can use them as little readers, either reading them on their own, reading them aloud, or reading them along with
the narration on CD. Yet what every child enjoys most is being read to. Here are Bible stories written in a
language which is simple and reverent. These are stories which edify both adults and children. The drawings must
also be given due attention: they are simply beautiful. Real to life, they are a great contrast to the modern
concept of Bible cartoon characters. There is a great need for good reading for children. Here is a good
beginning.
"These books are usually about 40 pages long, are well-illustrated by Rino Visser
and are faithful, biblical renderings. They make for good birthday presents to four and five year
olds."
— Rev. J. Visscher in Clarion
"As Reformed
books continue to be published, our young children are not left out. They are important, too.
Three small volumes in "The Word of the King Series" are now available. Each one is
attractively and well bound. Each is nicely illustrated by Rino Visser. All three are
familiar Old Testament stories for use with our young children. Our four and five-year-olds
will enjoy them read to them, and out six and seven-year-olds will find them good reading
material. The stories are not, as are so many today, filled with moralisms. Rather, they
point us to Christ who is at the centre of redemptive
history.
In addition, a compact disc has
been developed with Theresa Janssen reading each story. There are appropriate musical selections
interspersed through each of the stories, bringing us to see the Psalms and hymns in relation to
the stories.
These books by Van Rijswijk
deserve broad usage. Our children can learn to read while learning God’s great way of
salvation. The books used along with the CD will help with learning reading. What a tremendous help
for Reformed parents who must home-school! These are also great for grandparents to use with their
precious grandchildren."
— Rev. Jerome M. Julien
Abraham's
Sacrifice by Cor Van Rijswijk
Frederika Pronk in
The Messenger about Abraham's Sacrifice: "The focus of this Bible story,
Abraham offering Isaac, his only son, is told reverently and with deep feeling. Woven
throughout is the theme that Abraham knew by implication and believed that the animal
sacrifices he offered pointed to the perfect sacrifice of the Son of God. Psalm quotations
from the Book of Praise illustrate this theme. The tension of Abraham's struggle to
obey is made very clear. It was not only his love for Isaac, but especially the knowledge
that the Lamb of God would come through his heir, that caused Abraham the agony of soul when
the command came to offer His son Isaac. This Bible story is told from the
redemptive-historical viewpoint redemption stands central. We gladly recommend this book for
children approximately 6 to 10 years old."

The giant laughed. He was mocking the people of
God. But then a young
lad walked toward him. It was David, the shepherd
boy. He had just picked
up five smooth stones from a brook and put them in his shepherd’s
bag.

". . . was sorting through old pictures today and found this one. It was taken eleven years ago
. . . on my son’s birthday party. See all those party boys listening to a beautifully told Bible story by Anne
DeVries! We have read these books over and over and they are now falling apart. I would love to buy a big
stack to equip my grown up children (we have nine — all busy growing) [with] these two bible story books so
they can read them to their children. They are written precisely to Scripture, by a man who clearly understood
God’s redemption plan and portrays it in a faith-building way. I have bought and read other Bible stories but
none so able to build a child’s faith. My Mom read these books to me and my
siblings in Dutch and how I loved them. So I am pleading with you to republish them."— MvV at Q, BC

Thank you for your prompt service. My 13yr old and 10yr old sons enjoyed the first 3
books immensely (Scout). I just read "Secret of the Swamp" for the 3rd time to my 10yr
old. He can't get enough of Scout. Thanks again, L.C.
