"I Love the LORD" or "Jesus Loves Me" -- What are you and your children singing?
"I Love the LORD," Psalm 116:1 from the Genevan Psalter, is for many Reformed children the first or one of the first songs they learn by heart. But for thousands of other children it is "Jesus Loves Me."
Perhaps we should ask ourselves the question, "Is that Reformation or deformation?"
Would my wife be pleased if I always sing, "Theresa Loves ME, This I Know. For She Often Tells ME So."?
If we treat God that way, He well may ask, "But do you love Me? Do you put My Word before your word? Do you sing the Songs from My Word?"
The Songs from His Word are not just Scripture texts put to music. Such songs are often still very man-centered because they are taken out of context.
If we love the Lord and if we love our children we will want to sing what the Lord requires. And we also will work for reformation in the church if it does not sing Psalms.
To learn more about this topic one can read the new book "And They Sing A New Song" by C. Van der Waal." We offer this book free of charge with any order of the Goudimel Psalms package deal below.
